Let’s express our gratitude to Dr Tsendpurev Tsegmid for leading the workshop PhotoVoice: Telling Our Stories Through Images for reindeer herders and local community members in Tsagannuur, Khövsgöl aimag, Mongolia. Participants learnt how to tell their own stories through photography and short texts using accessible tools, such as mobile phones and Polaroid cameras. In particular, they explored and practiced photography composition basics, including framing and object selection for photos, as well as how to narrate their pictures and videos, and what to consider when posting on social media.

This was an empowering experience to share their own stories, focusing on practice and participation rather than perfection, and to celebrate each participant’s voice and visions. We sincerely appreciate the support from our local partners, Ulziisaikhan Sodow and Batsetseg Gankhuu, whose deep involvement in planning and organizing this event was crucial to its success. We are grateful to our participants who generously shared their visions and perspectives with us. This experience demonstrated that Indigenous and traditional storytelling are getting even more contemporary in the current age of Social Media.
